This. is. so. scary.
It’s January 2011. The GOP is about to assume control of both houses of Congress—having been voted in by a public deeply suspicious of Democrats after President Barack Obama conducted clandestine talks with President Felipe Calderon of Mexico and Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada. But two days before the new conservative majority is to be sworn in, Obama announces that this Congress will not be seated, that the United States (a creation of “racists and warmongers”) will be replaced by a North American Union, that the US Constitution will be dissolved, and that private ownership of firearms will be outlawed (as part of a United Nations treaty banning firearms globally). In response, millions rise up, and the Revolution begins.
These are the same people whose earlier Tea Party protests had been ignored and dismissed by the mainstream media.
Below is an objective of the game:
Location: Virginia, U.S.A.
You are a militia commander and in control of 1 county.
Mission: To defeat all enemies of the United States, both foreign and domestic. Includes:
* C.O.R.N.Y. (Congress of Rejected and Neglected Youth) Shock Troops
* Obama’s police force (Ameritroops)
* The Cong (Former congressional leaders)
* Nation of Malsi (Islamic fundamentalist troops)
* Black Tigers (black nationalist troops loyal to Obama)
* NHKS (National Honor Killing Society) Yet another Islamic army
* I.S.U.E. ( International Service Union Empire) Troops
* U.N. (United Nations) Peacekeepers
People are flocking to this website, as you can imagine. It has become a breeding ground for anti-Obama hatred.
They even have a page with a mock 2011 news feed, featuring short articles with titles such as “Michelle Malkin Stands Out Among The Leaders Who Saved America,” “Alex Jones Liberated in Most Ironic Story of the Revolution,” and “Hillary Clinton Finally Captured.”
Any humor that could be found in this is trumped by the fact that some people actually think this is going to happen.
They even have links to Glenn Beck and Mark Levin’s books, and a video of someone talking to Lou Dobbs about the supposed North American Union.
I wonder if Beck will promote this on his show…
Is it just me, or does it seem like something like this might incite violence? Perhaps even violence against political figures??
Wow. Carrie Prejean just made such a fool of herself on Larry King. And I don’t really mind since she has proven to be quite the hypocrite. She’s been playing the victim for too long, and now she’s trying to profit off of it with her book Still Standing. Why are we giving this girl attention? She misrepresented the first amendment (like her BFF Sarah Palin), and made a gross claim that people were so cruel and “intolerant” of her..
Hmm.. perhaps that’s because she’s so intolerant herself.. I mean, what else are you if you adamantly oppose gay marriage?
She tells Larry King that a completely innocent, relevant question about her settlement (I’m assuming with Miss USA) was “inappropriate.” Come on. With the recent sex tape scandal by a woman who sells herself as a “traditional family” Conservative moralist, you really think he wants to talk about your book?
Gotta love when self-righteous Conservadoofs make themselves look bad without the assistance of anyone else…
Also, has anyone else noticed that a lot of Conservatives have been walking out of interviews lately?
*If you don’t read the whole post, at least do yourself a favor and watch the amazing video I posted at the bottom. Totally sums up what I’m about to say in a truly impassioned, beautiful way.
**Also, I realize this is a very hot-button issue for many people. If you disagree with me — that’s fine. Just please have the decency to read through the whole article, consider my points and be respectful in the comments section!
***Warning: A slight snark attack may or may not occur in this post.
Before I start, I just want to say that when I use the word “anti-choice,” I am referencing what is popularly known as the “pro-life” position, which is against a woman’s lawful choice to receive an abortion (many times, even in cases of rape or incest) and believes women should not be able to have them. I believe that the term pro-life should not be co-opted by the anti-abortion and anti-choice movement. I mean, what person alive isn’t pro-life? I sure am.
That said, I have a few things to get off my chest. I have a few questions for the anti-choice community:
Do you consider the fact that a fetus is physically attached to a woman’s body, and therefore, is a part of it? That it is not a separate and full human being until it is actually outside the mother’s womb?
Do you consider the fact that there are millions upon millions of abandoned/hungry/poor/impoverished/abused/raped/orphaned children out there in the world? Have you considered the fact that your time might be better spent advocating on their behalf than trying to convince people what they should do with their body, their pregnancy, and the fetus growing in their body?
Do you ever call your Senator or Representative, asking that the United States taxes be raised to help support all those unwanted/uncared for children? Would you ask that taxes be raised even higher to support all the unwanted children born if abortion was not legal?
Do you advocate for better, more comprehensive sexual education for teenagers, knowing that teaching children about condoms, birth control, and any other form of contraception will prevent pregnancy, and therefore, prevent abortion?
Do you think you could get every single person on earth — or even every single person you encounter — to eat cow tongue? So have you considered the fact that there is NO way you will EVER convince everyone to be monogamous, married and/or abstinent?
Why do you only blame women? Did you ever think to get to the source? Meaning — have you ever protested all male ejaculation? Do you realize that no ejaculation = no fetus = no abortion?
Do you realize that there are some people who hold the spiritual/religious belief that a fetus does not become a baby/human being until is has taken it’s first breath? Wouldn’t that mean you were infringing upon their religious beliefs if you were to say abortion should be illegal/less available? Would you like if people forced you to believe in what they believe in?
Did you know that most fertilized eggs don’t even make it to the uterus? And many women have miscarriages? So if abortion is murder, does that make these natural bodily phenomena negligent homicide?
Did you know women have been having abortions for a long, long time? That before modern medicine, women would take abortifacient herbs which grow naturally in the environment?
If abortion were illegal, do you think all women who got abortions should go to jail for it? No, really — think about it — if you make something illegal, don’t you realize that it’s punishable by jail-time? Wouldn’t our jails be over-flowing with women? How would you feel about that?
Do you realize that it’s usually poor women who suffer the most from your anti-choice work? That rich women can afford to go anywhere and pay any price to get an abortion (and would do so even if it were illegal), while poor women cannot travel as far, and don’t have as much money?
Did you know that — contrary to popular belief — pro-choice people do not think abortion is the new pink, and pro-choice people do not celebrate and cheer about abortion being just fabulous while encouraging everyone to have one? Do you know that pro-choice people and pro-choice women realize that abortion is an excrutiatingly difficult and personal decision to make, but that it is sometimes a better and more responsible choice than bringing a child into the world that you cannot/choose not to care for?
Chances are — your mother, your best friend, you, your co-worker, your aunt, your cousin, your daughter, your banker, the woman you always run into at anti-choice rallies — have had an abortion, will have an abortion, or will at least consider having an abortion at some time in their life.
So please think twice next time politicians — or you — want to make a decision on behalf of someone else’s body, life and choices.
Update: It has come to my attention that the video has been removed by “the user.” Very possible that Lieberman’s folks demanded the video be taken down. Sigh. Who knows. I’ll try to find another copy…
Important Update: I think Facebook took the group down because the link just goes to the Facebook homepage now, and I couldn’t find it when I searched for it! Victory!!! Thanks to EVERYONE who participated!!! Alas, there are other groups out there that turn rape and racism into a joke. Please comment if you have links to any more and I will definitely report them! Here are some similar groups I found: Again, turning rapeand racism into a joke.
I would like as many people as possible to report this group. The group is supposed to be funny, but nothing about it is funny. Not only is this page racist by implying that large black men are an instant threat to people, but it also makes a joke out of rape – which is NEVER a laughing matter.
They also use Mark Henry’s photograph to represent the group (most likely without his permission). He is a wrestler in the WWE for those who don’t know, and as far as I know, he is NOT guilty of rape.
Please send the message to all the 40,000 thoughtless followers: this type of group, the pictures, and the disgusting comments in the “Just Fans” section and “Discussion” section is NOT acceptable.
Let’s see if we can actually get Facebook to take this group down. I believe in free speech, but not when it becomes hate speech.
The report button is on the lower left-hand part of the page.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps out!
Update: Some people are also sending letters to the WWE and Mark Henry to inform them of this terrible misuse of his photograph.
It all started this morning when people started re-tweeting “Know God, Know Peace. No God, No Peace.” This, of course, ignited the die-hard Christians, the Atheists of the world, and many skeptics and half-believers in between.
Anywho, this quote led to two trending topics – “Know Peace” and “No God” – the latter being the TT that made it all the way to the top. Then Twitter mysteriously switched out the “No God” TT for “Know God.” They made the two inter-changable. This made a lot of people (including myself) quite angry.
It’s been fascinating to watch such a display of passion! I try to understand all sides of the God argument, but ultimately, I just can’t believe there’s a guy in the sky who created everything.
It hurts my brain to think about the size of the universe. And considering how big and old the universe is, I think we ended up here by chance. Science tends to agree.
The extent of my religion, if it can even be called that, is that we all came from the same stardust – so in a way, we’re all connected. The end.
Oh, but before I go – a hilarious clip from Religulous =]
It’s called The Princess & The Frog, and it comes out December 11. And it’s about time! Ok, Ok.. not that I totally love Disney – I mean, I do know all the songs and I love to sing to them, but I also know that Disney has been (and still is) quite sexist and racist. Which sucks. But in a society where Fairy Tales sell, and where we are still plagued by deep-seated racism and sexism, that is to be expected.
But you know, now millions of little girls have one less thing to feel bad about – that no Disney Princess “looks like me.” I mean, doesn’t that just break your heart? It makes me think of the experiment where black girls where given white and black dolls, and asked “which one is prettier?” And what do you think they answered? How devastating for a 5-year-old. And what a terrible truth about our society. Even if this film helps a few girls feel momentarily happy that they can finally identify with a Disney Princess, it’s worth it. Now if only we could work on the heteronormative damsel-in-distress-needs-to-be-saved-by-handsome-prince female stereotype, we’d definitely be getting somewhere…
According to this website’s pictures, the long-awaited film is still controversial, as the Prince of the film looks white (though it should be said that the guy whose voice is used is Brazilian). Though it would be wonderful to see a Black Prince and Princess fall in love, I still think it’s nice that they went for “diversity.” I mean, it’s a start, right?
See the trailer here, along with a discussion on why it makes some people feel uncomfortable. All stereotypes aside, I think it looks cute.
The end. When they sang Don’t Stop Believin’. I. Cried. So. Hard.
One of the greatest moments of my life was before intermission on opening night of Les Miserables in high school. We were all marching in unison after dancing together in a scene that took months to perfect. I looked under the bright lights of the stage, and saw the astonished faces of the audience below. We really did it. We pulled it off. ‘One Day More’ came to an end, and the audience exploded with applause, and stood to their feet, in awe of our talent. It was one of the most amazing rushes I’ve ever had. A feeling of being part of something beautiful, though transient. All of us on that stage felt a true sense of accomplishment; this was our final product after months of singing, dancing, sweat and tears.
Glee brought all that back to me. Seeing those kids, those actors, sing their hearts out – it made me think about how much I miss acting and singing and being on stage. I never really gave it a try past high school because I was too afraid. Will I be good enough? Will I be able to make money with it? But I have to try. I’ll never find quite the same feeling in anything else, and I want that feeling again…
“If there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you.” ~T. Alan Armstrong
Well, she’s good at making sexy-faces and exciting 15-year-old boys, but apparently she’s not very fun to be around. After her thoughtless quote comparing Michael Bay to Hitler (a seriously bad idea), 3 crew members she worked with wrote a letter to Michael Bay fans. Follow the link to read it.
That’s really too bad. I always wonder why people who are so privileged act so rude and sometimes outright cruel. You’d think if you had the world at your feet, you would thank everyone who helped you along your path, but it seems that’s not true of all people.
I guess no matter what business you’re in, there will always be unappreciative people. Oh well. It’s their loss when they realize how lonely they are one day. All the riches in the world can’t buy you real friends.
I wish young girls would realize there are much greater role models out there. It’s easy to fall in love with movie-stars, but I’m only really impressed by them when they actually do something with their fame – take Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd and Sean Penn, for example.
I love to act. And if I were even semi-famous I would absolutely use that position to inspire other people to fight the good fight – for social justice and human rights. Why not? It’s better than alienating all the people around you and living a totally selfish lifestyle, which is really easy if you’re a bigwig in Hollywood. But it’s so much more admirable and fulfilling to use that position in order to inspire people…
I accidentally came across these clips.. and was reminded of so many soul-searching, life-changing conversations I’ve had. This movie is incredible.
It made me think – I used to have a lot more creative impulses when I was depressed. Sadness, anger and loneliness are great catalysts for creation. But then again, so is love. I guess instead of writing out my feelings in my solitude like I used to, I now share them with someone else. Our relationship is like an ongoing poem. So funny how your perspective changes drastically based on what’s going on in your life..
I think I’ll go write some poetry now.
Watch the videos to whet your appetite (if you dare – it’s very thought-provoking). Then, at some point, do yourself a favor and see the whole movie. Preferably with fellow complex, probing minds. Preferably with me =]
On really romantic evenings of self, I go salsa dancing with my confusion…
